Biography
Professor Yongping Zhu specializes in historical Chinese syntax and Chinese pedagogy. His research interests are mainly in the study of the development of Chinese function words and the second language acquisition. He has published a book about the development of Chinese prepositions (2010) and several articles in both fields of historical and pedagogical Chinese. His current works focused on the motivation of the development of Chinese function words and the acquisition of Chinese verb complements for students who study Chinese as a second language. Prior to Notre Dame, Professor Zhu taught Chinese language, literature and culture at Princeton University, Washington University in St. Louis, the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the Chinese Flagship Program at the University of Mississippi.
