Placement Exam
Students who wish to enroll in a language course beyond the elementary level must take a placement examination administered by the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures.
Students with prior experience in Chinese, Japanese, or Korean should take the placement exam before registering for a language class.
Students studying a language at Notre Dame must take at least one course in their language per semester. If you do not take at least one course in a given semester, you must take a placement exam to continue your studies.
Placement exams have two parts: written and oral. The Department reserves the right to change a student's placement based on their class performance. Contact us if you have any questions.
