HAFU

The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures and the Liu Institute for Asia and Asian Studies are pleased to host a screening of Hafu, a new documentary film co-directed by Megumi Nishikura and Lara Perez Takagi. Hafu explores issues relating to mixed-race people in Japan, who are referred to by the English loanword "half," or hāfu, which carries connotations of not being fully Japanese. The screening will be held at 7:30pm on Thursday, February 27 in the Eck Visitors Center auditorium, with an introductory lecture by Dr. Christopher Ball, a professor in Notre Dame's Department of Anthropology whose current project involves regionalism and rural communities in Japan. More information about the film and screening can be found on the Liu Institute website.
