Biography

Weibing Ye specializes in Chinese language pedagogy, educational technology, and teacher training. He was selected Faculty Fellow for Excellence in Teaching by Notre Dame Learning’s Kaneb Center (2020-2022). He was also the recipient of the Joyce Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching (Notre Dame, 2020), the Ursula Williams Fellowship (Notre Dame, 2017), and the Outstanding Service Award from the Center for the Study of Languages & Cultures (Notre Dame, 2016).

He has taught Chinese language courses at all levels. Over the summers, he teaches and serves as the Resident Director for the Notre Dame summer intensive program in Beijing.

He is the co-author of Chinese for Foreign Diplomats (2011). His research articles have appeared in the Journal of Technology and Chinese Language Teaching. His current research interests encompass second language acquisition, language assessment, study abroad program management, application of technology in language education, and Business Chinese. He has received the Provost's Learning Initiative Grant (Notre Dame, 2019), the Digital Learning Research Grant from the Center for Research Computing (Notre Dame, 2018), and the Digital Learning Initiatives Grant from the Office of Digital Learning (Notre Dame, 2017) to apply VR and AI technologies in language education.

Prior to joining Notre Dame, he taught at Williams College, the University of Mississippi, and the Inter-University Program at Tsinghua University (Beijing, China), as well as in the Princeton and Harvard intensive summer programs. He also coordinated the Chinese Flagship Summer Intensive Program at the University of Mississippi (2013, 2014).
