NDG in Photos July 2024 Beijing

The Global Professional Experience program continued through July with students taking part in immersive internships at the American Chamber of Commerce of Mexico, the Institute for Economic Affairs in Nairobi, and the EducationUSA office at Mackenzie University in São Paulo. Staff, students, alumni and families gathered in Hong Kong and Mumbai to celebrate and send off new Notre Dame undergraduate and exchange students. Jerusalem and Kylemore welcomed university leaders and faculty from the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies, Department of Art, Art History, and Design and Department of English for thought-provoking discussions and residency programs.

GPE Students at ND Mexico

MEXICO — After seven weeks in Mexico, Notre Dame Global Professional Experience (GPE) students enjoyed their last day in Xochimilco, a borough of Mexico City. With 110 miles of canals, Xochimilco is a World Heritage Site that attracts visitors to ride colorful gondola-like boats called trajineras. Hosted by Notre Dame Mexico, GPE students engaged in internships at University partners COMEXUS Fulbright-García Robles, the American Chamber of Commerce of Mexico, Co Creando la Innovación y Sustentabilidad Social AC and Enseña por México.

HONG KONGNotre Dame Hong Kong gathered staff, alumni, and families to officially send off its first-year undergraduate and exchange students along with semester abroad students who are part of the University’s International Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (iSURE) program.

JERUSALEM — Notre Dame Jerusalem hosted an in-depth discussion led by Professor Hillel Cohen, an Israeli scholar who studies and writes about Jewish-Arab relations in Palestine and Israel, and Asher Kaufman, Director of the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies.

ND Kylemore - Photo Essay - July 2024

KYLEMORE — Notre Dame Kylemore welcomed Notre Dame faculty Maria Tomasula and Dionne Bremyer with visual artists from Notre Dame and the New York Academy of Art. The visual artists were joined by undergraduate and master of fine arts (MFA) creative writers from Notre Dame to take part in Kylemore's longstanding creative writing program and visual arts MFA residency.

ND London - Photo Essay - July 2024

LONDON — Students on the pre-college course London: Knowledge and Power attend a lecture from Notre Dame London faculty member Matthew Knell outside the Houses of Parliament. Throughout the program, students explore London's complicated imperial history and culture by visiting the city's many historic buildings, museums and diverse neighborhoods.

ND Nairobi - Faith Kipkulei - Photo Essay July 2024

NAIROBI — Faith Kipkulei, a sophomore Science-Business major, wrapped up her seven-week GPE program with the Institute for Economic Affairs (IEA Kenya), a key partner of Notre Dame Nairobi. Kipkulei conducted research and data analysis regarding maritime trade relations between China, India, and Kenya within the Indian Ocean and provided policy recommendations for Kenya's current and future role in the region. Students at Assisi hosted by ND Rome

ROME — Notre Dame Rome students visit Assisi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Though Assisi is known for its medieval architecture and frescoes by Giotto and Cimabue, it is also the birthplace of Saint Francis.

ND Santiago Summer Students - Photo Essay - July 2024

SANTIAGO — Notre Dame staff and summer students visited the Basilica de Andacollo in the rural town of Andacollo where large celebrations honoring the Virgen de Andacollo are held. During their time in Notre Dame Santiago programs, students visit several regions of Chile to experience the vast array of geography within the country.

ND Sao Paulo GPE students July 2024 Photo Essay

SÃO PAULO — Hosted by Notre Dame Sao Paulo, students (from left to right) Justin Walters, Diego Gonzales Meneses and Robert Bektas participated in the GPE program from May through mid-July. Walters interned at the EducationUSA office at Mackenzie University in São Paulo, Gonzalez Meneses at a Brazilian law firm Pacheco Neto, Sanden Teisseire Advogados (PNST), and Bektas at Instituto Social para Motivar, Apoiar e Reconhecer Talentos (ISMART). In addition to their internships, the three also visited Rio de Janeiro, countless museums and other attractions in São Paulo and attended a traditional “Festa Junina.”

BEIJINGNotre Dame Beijing partnered with the American Chamber of Commerce in China to host an AI ethics panel. Among the panelists were Professor Don Howard from the Department of Philosophy at Notre Dame, and Dr. Richard Zhang, Senior Principal AI Engineer and CEO at Intel China.

Dublin Photo Essay - July 2024 - Kate Turner ND '25

DUBLINKate Turner, ‘25 gave the Notre Dame Dublin staff a behind-the-scenes tour of her internship at the Abbey Theatre, Ireland’s national theatre. Kate spent her summer at the Abbey in a rotational internship between production, casting, props, and more, getting a full spectrum experience of life and work in the world of theatre.

ISSA / ND Mumbai - Photo Essay - July 2024

ISSA & MUMBAIISSA’s Zana Karabatak joined Notre Dame Mumbai for Celebrate ND Week, where incoming students from India and their families joined current students and ND alumni for events across the city. Current and incoming Notre Dame students, alumni, and staff hiked the Kanheri Caves in Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Mumbai, experiencing the region's abundant waterfalls and ancient Buddhist rock-cut caves adorned with intricate carvings.

Study Abroad - Photo Essay - July 2024

STUDY ABROAD — A native of Poland, Notre Dame faculty member Dr. Emilia Justyna Powell, native of Poland, led a 3-week intensive course designed to be culturally, internationally, and intellectually immersive. Most class instruction occurred at major sites and museums in Warsaw, Auschwitz/Birkenau, Gdansk, and other surrounding cities. The course provided participants an opportunity to study the historical and cultural significance of Poland, while also allowing them to reflect on the Holocaust and how it influenced international law.
