Celebrate Chinese language and culture with two beautiful performances from Notre Dame’s Chinese Singing Club, presented for Notre Dame Day 2025. The University cherishes the learning of languages from around the globe as a way to build global citizens and cross-cultural connections.
Hear their renditions of:
"Field of Dreams" is a classic Chinese pop song, with lyrics written by 三毛 (San Mao), a beloved Taiwanese writer known for her poetic and emotional style. The song beautifully captures a sense of longing, hope, and the pursuit of dreams, likening the heart’s aspirations to a fertile field where dreams are planted and nurtured.
"Longing Is a Kind of Sickness", originally written and composed by 张震岳 (Chang Chen-yue), expresses the deep and lingering feeling of missing someone, portraying longing as a "sickness" that quietly but powerfully affects the heart.
The Chinese Singing Club is open to everyone who enjoys singing and has an interest in Chinese music and culture—no Chinese language experience required! Whether or not you're enrolled in Chinese classes, you're welcome to join us. We hold weekly or bi-weekly practice sessions and perform at major campus events such as Notre Dame Day, the World Music and Dance Fest, the Chinese New Year Celebration, the Chinese Speech Contest, and the Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration.
