Xiaoshan Yang specializes in classical Chinese poetry and poetics. His publications include articles on Tang poetry and prose as well as a monograph on comparative poetics published by Peter Lang. He is near completion of "Metamorphosis of the Private Sphere: The Urban Garden in Tang/Song Poetry," a book manuscript to be published by Harvard University Asia Center Publications. Yang was the recipient of grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange. At Notre Dame, he teaches courses in Chinese language, literature, and culture.
