Minor

NOTE: The revised major and minor in Chinese will be in effect for the Fall 2011 entering class. Students who have entered the University of Notre Dame before 2011 will have the option of choosing either the old or revised program.

The minor in Chinese (Fall 2011) requires a minimum of 15 credit hours distributed as follows:

  1. Language Study: Students must complete at least two semesters of the language or the equivalent, beyond the first year.
    • 10000-level language courses do not count toward a major, supplementary major, or minor.
    • Students with grades lower than B- are not advised to proceed to the next level.
  2. Literature and Culture: At least one upper division, 3-credit course taught by EALC faculty. University seminars do not satisfy this requirement.
  3. Asian Studies: Remaining credit hours may be fulfilled by more advanced language courses or other East Asia-related courses offered by the department, cross-listed by the department, or approved by the director of undergraduate studies.

The minor in Chinese (prior to Fall 2011) requires 15 credit hours distributed as follows:
