Placement Exams
Students who wish to enroll in a Chinese or Japanese language course beyond the 111 level must take a placement examination administered by the Department.
Students with prior experience of either Chinese or Japanese are advised to take the placement examination before registering for a language class.
Students who do not take the first semester of beginning Chinese or Japanese must take a placement test before registering for a second semester course.
Students who are taking a language sequence (in Chinese or Japanese) at Notre Dame and sit out for a semester or more of course work are required to take a placement exam in order to continue their study of the language.

Exams will take place from Monday, January 11 through Friday, January 15.
Part I: Writing, listening, and reading:
Contact Joan Rhoads (Rhoads.2@nd.edu) to arrange a time to take this part of the exam.
Part II: Oral interviews: Friday, January 15 from 4:00 p.m. in room 205 O’Shag.
These are brief and will go quickly. It is important that you show up promptly at the time you are given for your oral interview.
